GLA arrest in the West Midlands

20th November 2011

On 12 May 2011 a male aged 24 years old was arrested at his home addresses as part of an ongoing investigation into the supply of agricultural labour, contrary to section 12 of the Gangmasters (Licensing) Act 2004.

The arrest took place at around 0745 am this morning in the Smethwick area of the West Midlands in a joint operation conducted by the Gangmasters Licensing Authority and West Midlands Police.

A combined total of 14 officers were involved in this operation which also involved a business premise in Birmingham City Centre being searched as warrants were executed.

The man who was taken to Piddock Road Police Station, Smethwick has now been released on bail.

Enquiries are continuing.

Notes to editors

1. It is an offence to supply labour in the agricultural sector without a licence

2. If proven, the offence can carry a maximum sentence of 10 years imprisonment, a fine, or both
