Recommendations of the Farming Regulation Task Force announced

20th May 2011

The GLA welcomes the report by Richard Macdonald on better regulation in farming and food businesses.

We note the recommendations relevant to the GLA and will consider them carefully.

The GLA operates an intelligence-led approach to regulation, and this is essential for the efficient use of our resources and to minimise routine inspections of complaint businesses. We recognise that the Task Force’s concept of ‘earned recognition’ has potential to further develop our risk based approach and as the report points out we are currently trialling the concept in the forestry sector.

Paul Whitehouse

Chairman
