Who has a GLAA licence

The GLAA public register lists the labour providers who are licensed.

It is important to check that your labour provider has a current licence as it is an offence to use an unlicensed labour provider.

How to check that a business is licensed

Online - Open the GLAA Public Register.

You can then:

  • search for a labour provider by location, name, or their unique reference number (URN)
  • view further information such as contact details, authorised sectors and date of licence by selecting the magnifying glass icon
  • print the page to keep a copy for your records

By phone - Call our helpline on 0345 602 5020 and select option 1 to confirm that a labour provider is licensed.

If you cannot find details for your labour provider, or have any questions, please contact us for confirmation that they do not have a licence.

The Active Check service

We recommend signing up for the ‘active check’ alerts service, in addition to checking the public register. This keeps you informed of any changes to your labour providers licence and proves that you have taken reasonable steps to use a licensed labour provider.

For more information on how to register for this service read the active check page in the Information for labour users section, or call the GLAA helpline.

Exempt packaging companies

A list of exempt third party packaging companies can be found here.

Please note

Following our move to the Home Office some parts of the website, such as the public register, have not yet been updated with the new logo and colours. Please be assured that any pages that still show the Defra logo are current and part of the GLAA site.

Guidance for 'blank screen' issues

If you are using the latest version of a web browser and experience any problems with your screen, read our guidance on how to resolve the issue.
