This website is run by the Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority.

We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts

  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • many documents are in PDF format and are not fully accessible
  • the alternative text for some images needs additional work
  • the forms and text in other languages need descriptions to identify them

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

The Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non compliance with the accessibility regulations

The alt attribute on some images needs to be amended to remove the file name. This fails WCAG 2.1 A 1.1.1. We plan to add text alternatives for all images by 30 November 2020. When we publish new content we’ll make sure our use of images meets accessibility standards.

All forms on the website need a description in the legend field. This fails WCAG 2.1 A H71. There are 11 forms that need further information to allow a screen reader to accurately describe them. We plan to fix this by 31 October 2020.

Some PDF documents do not have tags. This fails WCAG 2.1 A 1.3.5. We will amend all documents published after September 2018, by December 2020.

Some PDF documents do not have titles. This fails WCAG 2.1 A F25. We will amend all documents published after September 2018, by December 2020.

Some PDF documents do not have lang attributes to indicate the language. This fails WCAG 2.1 A 3.1.1. We will amend all documents published after September 2018, by December 2020.

Several ‘read more’ links are too generic and need to be more descriptive. This fails WCAG 2.1 A F63. We plan to fix this by 30 September 2020.

Content in different languages needs the lang attribute to allow a screen reader to accurately pronounce the words. This fails WCAG 2.1 AA 3.1.2. We plan to fix this by 31 October 2020.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents

Some of our older PDFs do not meet accessibility standards - for example, they may not be structured so they’re accessible to a screen reader. This does not meet WCAG 2.1 success criterion 4.1.2.

Some of these PDFs are essential to providing our services. For example, publications about our licensing standards. By 31 December 2020, we plan to either fix these or replace them with accessible HTML pages.

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services. For example, we do not plan to fix Board papers, or newsletters such as the GLAA Brief published before this date.

Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

Our accessibility roadmap shows how and when we plan to improve accessibility on this website.
