The illegal tobacco trade

Freedom of Information Act Request

Ref: FOI 20-21 23

Date issued: 11 March 2021

Subject: The illegal tobacco trade

Question(s):

I’d like to make a request for information under the Freedom of Information Act:
I’m trying to establish the relationship between modern slavery and the illegal tobacco trade. I understand that though the GLAA takes part in multi-agency operations, the first of its business plan objectives is to “identify and support victims of labour exploitation”.

In light of this, I’d like to know how many victims the GLAA identified as being involved in the illegal tobacco trade in 2020. Please could this include:
• MS1 referrals
• NRM referrals
• Victims that were identified as being involved in the illegal tobacco trade but not referred.
• A brief summary of how the victim was involved in the illegal tobacco trade
• Age and Nationality of Victim

Response:

The GLAA have not identified any victims as being involved in the illegal tobacco trade in 2020.
