Multi-agency visit to garment factories

Freedom of Information Act Request

Ref: FOI 21-22 25

Date issued: 18 January 2022

Subject: Multi-agency visit to garment factories

Question(s):

Please provide disclosure of the following:

1.    We understand that a multi-agency raid was conducted at a garment factory located at, or near, Brighton Road, Leicester, Leicester City, UK, LE5 0HA on 3 July 2020. Please disclose if the Gangmasters & Labour Abuse Authority was an agency participating in this raid.

2.  We request disclosure of any participation the GLAA had in raids carried out between 1 January 2018 and 1 December 2021 at garments factories in the Leicestershire County, specified by date and approximate location of the raid in which the GLAA was a participating agency.

Response:

1.    On 3 July 2020, one of our officers attended a multi-agency visit co-ordinated by Leicestershire Police to a garment factory near Brighton Road. During this visit, one person was arrested by Immigration Enforcement and some minor HSE issues were identified. The GLAA was not the lead agency for this visit. You may wish to submit an FOI request to the Leicestershire police via their website: https://www.leics.police.uk/foi-ai/af/accessing-information/what-is-the-freedom-of-information-act/

2.    When considering your second question, the GLAA considers the information you have requested exempt under section 30 (2)(a)(iii) of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). We are unable to release this amount of information as it may relate to ongoing investigations. You may wish to narrow down your request as you have in your first question and resubmit an FOI to us at foi@gla.gov.uk.
