Man arrested for conspiring to commit slavery

A Romanian man has been arrested on suspicion of conspiring to commit slavery, servitude and forced labour.
The 34-year-old was arrested by officers from the Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority (GLAA) at an address in Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire, on the morning of Thursday 3 October.
GLAA officers acted in response to concerns that a number of Romanian workers were being exploited in the agricultural sector.
The suspect, who was also detained on suspicion of entering into arrangements with an unlicensed gangmaster, is currently in custody being questioned.
GLAA Senior Investigating Officer Andy Davies said: “This operation demonstrates our commitment to tackle anyone we suspect is committing or even conspiring to commit acts of forced labour and slavery.
“It’s also important to reiterate that if you use workers in our regulated sectors, they must come from a licensed labour provider. Failing to do so can result in a fine and time in prison.
