GLAA Regional Seminars 2018

11th April 2018

GLAA Regional Seminar 2018 banner

They say that knowledge is power, and that’s certainly the case in preventing and identifying labour exploitation and modern slavery within the UK labour market.

Do you know enough about labour exploitation? Are there workers within your business who could be being exploited?

If you want to stand united with the Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority (GLAA) in tackling labour abuse, then I’d encourage you to attend one of a series of seminars planned throughout the UK in May, June and July.

They are free to attend and are open to all our stakeholders, both new and existing. You’ll have the opportunity to meet key GLAA colleagues, share information, network and find out more about the issues facing the UK labour market when it comes to labour exploitation.

I’d highly recommend you attend if you work within a current GLAA sector, but it’s also extremely useful for anyone involved in other businesses where there’s a vulnerability of labour being exploited.

It’s been a busy year for the GLAA, since being granted police-style powers to investigate labour abuse and exploitation across all aspects of the UK labour market.

We have been working closely with partner organisations such as the police, the National Crime Agency and other government law enforcement agencies to target, dismantle and disrupt serious and organised crime.

Through the intelligence the GLAA receives from the public, industry, regular inspections and other government departments, we investigate reports of worker exploitation and illegal activity.

Since April last year, we’ve arrested 97 people, identified over 1,140 workers as suffering direct abuse and recovered nearly £151,000 for workers.

We are making great strides but we are not doing this alone and our future success relies on people like you. Only by working together can we begin to tackle an issue which has spread to every corner of the UK.

My colleagues and I look forward to meeting you at one of the events - come along and find out how, together, we can all play a part in helping put an end to labour exploitation and modern slavery for good.

Best regards

Roger Bannister

Interim Chief Executive
