Learn more about modern slavery at GLAA Scotland seminar

13th June 2018

Do you know enough about labour exploitation? Would you like to meet our new Chief Executive who will explain the work of the Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority (GLAA)? Have you got any burning questions you would like to ask about modern slavery and labour abuse, particularly focused on Scotland?

If the answer to any of those questions is yes, we would encourage you to come along to the GLAA regional seminar taking place in Perth later this month.

The event is free to attend and will be held on Wednesday 27 June from 11am until 1pm.

Attendees will watch a presentation before the floor will be opened for an informal question and answer session on the GLAA’s work.

The regional seminars have proved to be a draw for businesses and stakeholders over the last couple of months, with popular events held in the Midlands, Yorkshire, Manchester and the East of England so far.

After the event in Perth, the seminars head down to South Wales, the south-west and south-east in early July.

In the last year, the GLAA has arrested 107 people for modern slavery, identified 1,335 abused workers, launched 181 investigations and doubled its workforce to tackle exploitation across the labour market more effectively than ever before.

GLAA Interim Chief Executive Roger Bannister, who will lead the session, said: “Spaces are filling fast for this much-anticipated event which is now only a couple of weeks away.

“Scotland is a very important area for the GLAA. It combines large rural areas which are predominantly agricultural with a significant construction and manufacturing base, especially in the central belt. All of this sits within the GLAA’s new broader remit, and we are determined to stamp out abuse and exploitation across all sectors and industries.

“I have been in my role for just two months but I already see an organisation with the drive and commitment to tackle this issue along with our wide range of partners, many of whom will be joining us at the seminar.

“Come and see how we can all work together to put an end to modern slavery and labour exploitation in Scotland for good.”

How to book

The seminar will be held at Huntingtower Hotel on Crieff Road in Perth. The postcode is PH1 3JT.
