Five charged after joint op' in Derby

18th September 2017

Five people have been charged with Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking offences following last week's joint operation by Derbyshire Police and the GLAA.

Three men and two women, all from Derby, appeared at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates Court on Friday.

Ainars Pelcis (53) of Rutland Street, Ilgvars Pelcis (32), of St James Road, Karlis Aleksandrovs (41), of Patmore Square and Magdalena Kleina (54), of Rutland Street,  Jolanta Pelce (35) of Patmore Square all face trafficking charges and were remanded in custody.

A 31-year-old woman who was also arrested during the operation has been released under investigation.

The arrests were made on Tuesday, September 12 after police, GLAA and council officers executed warrants at Rutland Street, St James Road, Balaclava Road and Patmore Square.

Ten people, who are believed to be victims of human trafficking, were found at those addresses. A number of those recovered are being provided with on-going support from the police and other partner agencies.
