GLAA licensing standards consultation

Are you interested in helping the Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority (GLAA) fight modern slavery and labour exploitation? If so, we are looking for your views on proposals to update our licensing standards.
A six-week public consultation has been launched today (Tuesday 22 May) and will run until Tuesday 3 July.
Businesses must apply for a GLAA licence before they supply workers to a GLAA regulated sector.
The proposed revisions and clarifications to the licensing standards cover a range of issues from providing greater clarity on the payment of holiday pay, to strengthening our review of forced labour, and ensuring that licence holders have an agreement when they make a loan to workers.

Answer as many as you like but do not feel restricted to issues covered by the questions.

GLAA Director of People and Licensing Nicola Ray said: “We are looking forward to hearing how you think the standards could be improved to best support our work in protecting vulnerable and exploited workers. All of your comments and proposals are greatly appreciated and will help us shape the revised standards.
“The standards were last updated back in 2012 so we feel this is the right time to take another look and make some small revisions. We are not proposing wholesale changes but are seeking to refresh the standards and provide clarification in certain areas.
“As part of the consultation, we are holding two meetings in Nottingham in early June which I would encourage you to attend to hear more about the changes we are looking to make and ask us any questions on the standards.”
The two consultation meetings will take place at the GLAA Head Office in Nottingham from 10am until 12pm on 7 June and 11 June.
Places at the consultation meetings are limited so please confirm your attendance by Friday 1 June by emailing consultation@gla.gov.uk.
Both workshops will cover the same topic so places are limited to one person per organisation and to only one session.
A summary of responses will be published on our website once the consultation has ended along with the proposed changes to the licensing standards.
Any changes to the standards are expected to be implemented later this year, subject to approval from the GLAA Board.
