REC Webinar - Reform of the GLA

The Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority is a newly reformed Government body created to protect vulnerable workers. We are evolving from the Gangmasters Licensing Authority (GLA) and, under our new guise, we will get more police-style powers to investigate labour offences and a much-extended remit. We anticipate being fully operational within three months.

Our current Chief Executive, Paul Broadbent, is to retain charge of the GLAA and he has been out and about across the whole of the UK in recent weeks explaining the changes to interested stakeholders. However, due to limited dates and capacity at the events some of you may not have been able to get along to see him, or you may have found your venue of choice to be fully-booked. If you missed out for whatever reason, or if you attended and have colleagues who you think would also benefit from the information, then we have good news.

The CEO recently answered questions about the new GLAA in a live webinar courtesy of our friends at the REC – the Recruitment and Employment Confederation.

REC Chief Executive Kevin Green hosted the hour-long lunch-time event on 21 March 2017. He quizzed Paul about how the new GLAA will work within the UK labour market, what issues have been identified already and where and what the new organisation plans to do to stamp out labour exploitation.
